New Developments in LASIK Surgery

Large Pupils No Longer a Problem
In the past, large pupils were a definite contraindication to having LASIK because of the real possibility of debilitating glare and halos at night. This was because the reshaping of the cornea with the laser took place only in the central 5.5 millimeters of the cornea. This caused us to reject many potential patients as poor candidates. However, we are now one of the few laser centers in the country that have the ability to increase this centrally treated area up to 8 millimeters. This means that virtually any eye, no matter what the pupil size, can now be treated safely without night vision complications. If you have been told in the past that it was risky for you to have LASIK because of your pupil size, it may be time to get reevaluated.
